Shirley Heights, perched high above English Harbour on Antigua’s southern coast, is one of the island’s most iconic viewpoints. Once a military lookout and signal station during the 18th century, it played a key role in guarding the British naval base at Nelson’s Dockyard. Today, the restored fortifications and gun emplacements remain, blending history with sweeping vistas that capture the island’s maritime past.

The panoramic views from Shirley Heights are nothing short of spectacular, stretching across English Harbour, Falmouth Harbour, and on clear days, even as far as the island of Montserrat. At sunset, the sky glows over the harbours below, creating one of the most memorable scenes in the Caribbean. The site has also become famous for its lively Sunday gatherings, where steel bands and reggae groups play while visitors and locals share food, drinks, and dancing.
